There is what is called a provisional registration (9 month supervised status) for tattooing in Mississippi. Please see: Mississippi State Department of Health. Please call/contact THEM for more information. I am offering this supervised "Provisional registration" along with TRAINING and referring to it as a "permanent makeup apprenticeship" from now on in this website.
There is no separate license for permanent makeup or permanent cosmetics, it is a tattoo license, but it is better to get your apprenticeship (or otherwise suffer your "Provisional registration") from a permanent makeup/cosmetics artist than a traditional body tattoo artist if you are in the beauty business and going to do permanent makeup.
Permanent makeup is a tattoo but with distinct differences. In response to numerous requests, I will be offering (to select individuals) nine month Mississippi "Provisional Registration" apprenticeships in my new larger office (and school) at 4423-A Leisure Time in Diamondhead (just off of Interstate 10 at exit 16 on the Mississippi Gulf Coast).
Accepted students will be trained in the art and the implantation of upscale permanent makeup, color theory, color and shape corrections, scar and wrinkle reduction, sanitation, and marketing. Outside study by the student is required. Membership in the American Academy of Micropigmentation is recommended but not required. Insurance and certificate of blood borne pathogens class will be required from the first day of class. All of your needles, pigments and numbing products must remain in my office until you are licensed to work on your own.
If you lay a needle to a face outside of my office; I will drop you from my program. If I do not believe you can be an asset to the industry; I will drop you from my program. I am not in this for the money (though I will charge you to recoup my costs and you can recoup your costs by charging your clients). I am doing this because of the need for superior permanent makeup training in this industry (and this state).
Learning permanent makeup, training, apprenticeship and supplies are an expense. Some people will go on to earn a great income from it. Some will give up. The first year you will need to have other money coming in. You may never be able to live on permanent makeup alone but it can be a very nice side income. A few artistic, talented, bold and determined people will be successful enough to do "only" permanent makeup for a living. The schools would have you believe that you can walk out of their school and make a fortune; it's not true. The first year is almost all expense and you should put every cent you make back into your business.
I do not use carbon black or other inks that migrate. I do not do "magic marker" brows or old fashion wings (that skin will fall... so will the wing). I do not use or approve of ink around the eyes; I use iron oxide pigments around the eyes. I do the kind of makeup that is seen in upscale fashion magazines... soft and subtle. If it looks like a tattoo...I have failed. If your work looks like a tattoo...you have failed.
Now, if you still want to do this, and are willing to learn permanent makeup techniques that I have learned from the best teachers in the world (mostly in accordance with the American Academy of Micropigmentation) for 9 months and then go on your way and create your own style?
Please read this entire website before contacting me. If you are still interested and you can accept: my prices, come to my shop for the training, buy insurance, buy the supplies that I recommend, and comply with the 9 month state requirements...contact me by phone or e-mail.
